One could judge just how accomplished an actor Harry Dean Stanton was by the sheer variety of TV series and films that accompanied his name in the headlines on Friday (Sept. 15). Stanton, who died at the ripe age of 91 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, played an integral in dozens of roles over his seven-decade career. Based on a very unscientific poll, the 2017 revival of Twin Peaks, was the unlikely winner.
Hollywood trade paper Variety went with the cable series Big Love and Twin Peaks in their headline. Entertainment Weekly and USA Today went with Twin Peaks and Pretty in Pink. Rolling Stone and CBS News offered Repo Man and Twin Peaks. And so on.
But there were plenty more. Key roles in the original Alien film. Cool Hand Luke. The Godfather Part II. Kelly’s Heroes. Private Benjamin. Paris, Texas. And scores more.
But first, watch Stanton perform “Hava Nagila” with Bob Dylan. Yup.
Here are a sampling of statements from his Hollywood colleagues.

Jump into a conversationSo sad we lost the multi-talented Harry Dean Stanton. He was a major league talent. They don’t make ’em like HDS anymore. At 91, he earned a rest. RIP
