One of the world’s best-selling albums, Dire Straits’ Brothers In Arms, is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a variety of deluxe edition releases. The expanded album, which arrived on May 16, 2025, is available as a 3-CD set and as a 5-LP collection. The original album has also been reissued as a single LP.

The expanded deluxe editions feature the full studio album and a previously unreleased full-length concert from the band’s Municipal Auditorium, San Antonio, Texas, tour stop in 1985. (Listen to performances of several favorite tracks below.) The “Live In 85” tour ran a total of 248 gigs in 117 cities and was seen by over two and a half million people. The 3-CD edition and single LP version are available in the U.S. here and in the U.K. here. The 5-LP edition is available in the U.K. here.

As Best Classic Bands wrote in its Album Rewind: “With their fifth album, Dire Straits vaulted from platinum respectability to the commercial ionosphere—album chart bragging rights in more than a dozen countries, multiple-platinum sales that would cast a long shadow over British pop culture and new notoriety as music video darlings.”

Housed in a digi-sleeve featuring art inspired by Mark Knopfler’s National Style ‘O’ Resonator Guitar, seen on the cover of the studio album, the 3-CD version includes a booklet featuring new liner notes, written by Paul Sexton, following new interviews with band members Mark Knopfler, John Illsley and Guy Fletcher. The 5-LP includes the above, packaged in a slip case.

Featuring singles “Money For Nothing” and “Walk Of Life,” Brothers In Arms, originally released on May 17, 1985, spent 14 non-consecutive weeks at #1 in the U.K. Albums Chart and is the 8th best-selling album in U.K. chart history. It topped the U.S. album chart for nine weeks and reached #1 in more than a dozen countries. It has sold a reported 30 million copies worldwide.
