Pixies have released the first video from their upcoming album, Head Carrier, due out September 30 via PIAS America. According to an announcement from the band, “Tenement Song” takes its influence from the song’s lyrics and Vaughan Oliver’s album artwork. The video was conceived and created by the U.K./European-based Krank! Collective and “follows a journey through a squalid tenement block on the brink of demolition,” says the press release.

The Krank! Team—Neirin Best, Lianne Pierce and Xavier Burrow—“created the video using a variety of handmade and digital animation techniques, including old-school light box, painted animation, rotoscoping and digital compositing,” the announcement says.

Head Carrier, the Pixies’ second post-reunion album, is a 12-track collection recorded at London’s Rak Studios from mid-February through to mid-March this year. (Pre-order is available here.) The album will also be available as a special limited-edition, deluxe boxed set, available exclusively through Pixiesmusic.com. The box will include the CD, the album on heavyweight/180-gram black vinyl and a 24-page, oversized booklet with the lyrics of the first single, “Um Chagga Lagga,” and Oliver’s original artwork. Also available only through the band’s website is a special bundle that includes the deluxe box, t-shirt and a special screen printed 12″ x 12″ record sleeve-sized poster of Oliver’s album artwork.
