Hot Tuna—still going strong after 47 years with founding members Jorma Kaukonen (guitar, vocals) and Jack Casady (bass)—will head out on tour in late September, alternating acoustic and electric dates (the latter with longtime drummer Justin Guip completing the lineup). Kaukonen will also perform solo at several locations.
Kaukonen and Casady have played together since they met in their teens and recently received a Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award for their involvement in Jefferson Airplane in the ’60s and early ’70s. They also recently performed in a special PBS “Great Performances” concert, The Grammy Salute to Music Legends, which will air this fall.

Hot Tuna grew out of Kaukonen and Casady’s restlessness during lulls in the Airplane’s touring schedule. They headed out on their own when the Airplane split in 1972 and have since performed thousands of concerts and released dozens of recordings in various configurations, playing both electric and acoustic music. Kaukonen also records and performs solo in between Tuna dates and operates the Fur Peace Ranch music camp in Ohio.
