Legendary rock and roll powerhouse Grand Funk Railroad will be returning to the road in 2021 with several dozen dates planned.

In the June 3 announcement, founding member Don Brewer said, “I miss two things touring. Being on stage in front of the fans playing our music, and being with all the guys in the band and crew. We are brothers.”

The run is named the “Some Kind Of Wonderful” tour in honor of their 1975 pop smash. This year marks the 50th anniversary of when the group’s concert at New York’s Shea Stadium sold out faster than the Beatles.

The high-energy five-piece band includes original founding members Brewer (vocals and drums, writer and singer of the multi-million selling hit, “We’re An American Band”) and bassist Mel Schacher. Also joining are blue-eyed soul singer Max Carl, a rock veteran from .38 Special and Jack Mack and the Heart Attack; lead guitarist Bruce Kulick, best known for his 12 years with KISS; and keyboardist Tim Cashion whose credits include stints with Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band and Robert Palmer’s band.

Grand Funk originated in Flint, Mich. in 1969 and enjoyed significant success with such hits as “We’re An American Band,” “I’m Your Captain/Closer to Home,” “Locomotion,” and “Some Kind Of Wonderful,” among their 19 charted singles. The group earned 13 gold and 10 platinum records with record sales exceeding 25 million copies sold worldwide.

Says Brewer, “We have been touring nonstop with this band since 2000 and the band and crew are family. We have not had a break like this since 1982.”

No Mark Farner, no GFR. You guys screwed him royal. He puts on a great show and still has the voice.

I wouldn’t go if it were free. You two played in a band with a star. Give it up loosers.

Grand Funk Railroad is a band I grew up with in my late teens. My first album was E Pluribus Funk, a birthday gift. I played lead guitar in a local band and we did several GFR tunes. Mark Farner, still one of my idols, was the driving force behind the 3-piece power band. This 5-piece joke just goes to show that Mark has the talent it takes to rock GFR as it began. Screw you grand funk (you don’t deserve caps), rock on Mark

Mark Farner is arguably the greatest male rock singer of all….without him they’re just another cover band

I’ve seen this current lineup several times and I’ll tell you THEY AIN’T GOT IT! Don says the fans go for the music – I disagree, I go for the entertainment, great show and the music – performed by the original members. This lineup are just musicians playing GFR cover songs

This pickup band by Don Brewer is a rancid stain on the Grand Funk Railroad legacy. And Brewer knows it. But doesn’t care. Egos, man. You couldn’t pay me to watch this insult. Chin up, Mark.

Don Brewer should be ashamed for marching out this dog and pony show and calling it GRAND FUNK RAILROAD! The replacements ARE NOT MARK FARNER! Funny it took all of those replacements to ATTEMPT to fill the void created by Brewer’s screw up and trying to replace Mark Farner! For shame, for shame, for shame! Wake up Don and smell the coffee!

Its the same old story of these bands. Creedence, CSNY, Simon and Garfunkel, etc. GFR was my favorite band in the 70’s Attended the concert @ Shea. Its 50 years in July, and mention of the so called video that Don has. Didn’t realize he was such an AH. I agree, No Mark, no GFR.
