We’ve been telling Best Classic Bands readers that we choose what contests to offer based on one criteria: what would we want to win?

So when we saw that Warner Bros./Reprise Records was issuing the latest album in the Performance Series of the Neil Young Archives – the live two-CD set Bluenote Café – we jumped on that. And for good measure, we’re throwing in his most recent studio album, The Monsanto Years and last year’s Storytone album. Our winner gets a three-album Neil Young gift pack!

Bluenote Café collects various performances captured at 10 different venues during Young’s 1987-’88 tour with a full horn section included in the 11-piece Bluenote Café band. The set documents one of his most funky and heartfelt periods and features seven unreleased songs and a searing 19-minute-plus version of the classic “Tonight’s The Night.”

The Monsanto Years, released this summer, pairs Young with the impressive young band, Promise Of The Real, including Lukas Nelson (son of Willie). Our review noted they “freshen and reinvigorate [Young’s] classic sound.” 1984’s Storytone features the legend performing with a full-blown orchestra on some tracks and a big band on the others.
