It’s a small fraternity, really, and once a member, always a member. Fellow alums and current members of Boston are among those paying tribute to drummer John ‘Sib’ Hashian, who died March 22 while performing on a rock legends cruise. The Hitmakers cruise set sail from Miami, FL on March 18. The ship had been docked in San Juan, PR on Wednesday (March 22) and set sail that afternoon, bound for its next port-of-call in Nassau, The Bahamas.

Hashian was appearing with fellow Boston alum, guitarist Barry Goudreau and others, when he collapsed and could not be resuscitated. Fellow classic rock musicians performing on the cruise included longtime Foreigner lead vocalist Lou Gramm, and members and former members of various classic rock and pop groups.

Goudreau wrote on Facebook: “It’s with a very heavy heart that I have to announce that my musical partner of 50 years, Sib Hashian, collapsed during our set on the Rock Legends Cruise last night. Despite efforts to revive him, he did not survive. Sib was in a million, never to be replaced. He will be greatly missed.”

Michael Sweet, co-founder of Stryper, was a singer and guitarist for Boston from 2007-2011. He wrote on Facebook: “I never had the chance to play with Sib but I was a member of the band (Boston) that he helped create. My heart goes out to Sib‘s family, friends and fans worldwide. God Bless you My friend and thank you for your incredible contribution to my musical journey and to the history of rock and roll. Love & Respect always ~ M

Boston issued a statement on Thursday evening (March 23):

Former Kansas lead singer John Elefante, who performed on the cruise, wrote: “Please Pray for Sibs family for this so un-expected loss!!”

Mark Lindsay, lead singer of Paul Revere & the Raiders, also performed on the cruise. His tweet…

Boston TV station WCVB offered a statement from Suzanne Hashian, Sib’s wife, of 38 years: “It is with deep and profound sadness I share the news of my husband’s, John ‘Sib’ Hashian, the drummer formerly of the band Boston, sudden death.”
