The Rolling Stones, still gathering no moss as they celebrated their 60th anniversary, returned to the legendary venue on July 3, 2022, when they played the second of two concerts at London’s Hyde Park as part of this year’s British Summer Time festival. The Sunday concert was just the sixth performance of their “Sixty” tour, due to the postponement earlier in the month of several shows when Mick Jagger tested positive for Covid-19.

It had been eight days since their previous performance when they played Hyde Park on June 25. Six of the 19 songs on the July 3 setlist were different from the earlier show, including three that were making their 2022 tour debut. One of those was their cover of Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone.” It’s a song that they’ve performed on occasion, though it had been a while… the last time was Aug. 10, 2019, in Denver, Colo. Watch the July 3 performance below.

The band had first played Hyde Park in July 1969 for a free concert with a lineup that featured their then-new lead guitarist, Mick Taylor, just 20 years old at the time. The band’s founder, Brian Jones, had died just two days earlier. They last performed there in 2013.

As in recent years, the Stones have built-in plenty of days in between concerts. During this tour, Jagger and Keith Richards were 78. Ronnie Wood turned 75 on opening night. They were joined, once again, by drummer Steve Jordan, Darryl Jones (bass), Chuck Leavell (piano/organ), Karl Denson (sax), Tim Ries (sax) Matt Clifford (keyboards), and Bernard Fowler/Sasha Allen (backing vocals).

On this tour, a brief video montage of Charlie Watts appeared on the giant screens before the Stones take the stage.

The Stones have been performing 1966’s “Out of Time” for the very first time on this tour. The Hyde Park show was no exception.

It was joined at this show by another song from that era.

Great that they are still performing, but sure would have been nice to have Mick Taylor on-board for this 60th Anniversary Tour, especially for the Hyde Park show, since he stepped in after Brian Jones’s death, with his first performance with the Stones, at Hyde Park.

With the exception of the superb “Some Girls” and “Tattoo You”, the Mick Taylor era produced some of the Stones most memorable and muscular tunes.

Not a bad gig, but the sound engineering was utter rubbish. You can hear it on these recordings. There are so many problems with it that its not worth trying to describe them. You would think that their engineer would be able to balance half a dozen instruments and leave the vocals audible. Was very disappointed.

Every time i watch this I still can’t believe they didn’t play Can’t You Hear Me Knockin at the 2nd Hyde Park show. They haven’t played that song live since the mid 2000s when Bobby Keys was still alive and it sounded way better than it did at this show. Still I’ve been hoping they’d play it again at every single show I’ve attended since the 80s.
