Hootie and the Blowfish have begun their reunion tour with Darius Rucker. The run was announced on Dec. 3 with the band joined by special guest Barenaked Ladies for a 44-city trek—dubbed the “Group Therapy Tour.” It ends, fittingly, with several shows in Columbia, SC, where they formed.

On April 11, the band announced 25th anniversary reissues of their debut album, Cracked Rear View. (The 1994 release is currently the tenth best-selling album of all time in the U.S., certified 21x Platinum.) The new edition, which arrived May 31, features a newly remastered edition of the album, rare and unreleased studio and live recordings, plus a DVD with surround sound mixes, music videos and more.
The third disc of a 3-CD/1-DVD set features a 20-song concert recorded at Nick’s Fat City in Pittsburgh, PA, on February 3, 1995, most of which is previously unreleased.
The band – Mark Bryan, Dean Felber, Rucker and Jim “Soni” Sonefeld – recorded the album in Los Angeles with producer Don Gehman.
“We’re writing songs in the studio, we’re making a new album,” Rucker told The Today Show in an interview on Dec. 3. “We’re not doing it for us. We’re doing it for those people who used to plan their vacations around the Hootie & the Blowfish tour.”
For Hootie and the Blowfish, the tour is their first full-scale outing in more than a decade. The album will be their first new studio release in 15 years.

The group formed in Columbia, SC, in 1986. Cracked Rear View included four hits: “Hold My Hand” (#10), “Let Her Cry” (#9), “Only Wanna Be With You” (#6) and “Time” (#14).

“We’ve played with Hootie and the Blowfish a few times over the years, and it’s always been a good time,” says Barenaked Ladies vocalist/guitarist Ed Robertson. “We’re thrilled they asked us to support them on this tour.”
Robertson, drummer Tyler Stewart, keyboardist Kevin Hearn and bassist Jim Creeggan have also begun writing the follow-up to 2017’s Fake Nudes, their 15th studio album.
