Helen Reddy is being mourned by the music world, in the days following the news of her passing on September 29 at the age of 78. The Australian-born singer became a pop superstar and feminist icon with her 1972 number one hit, “I Am Woman.”

Fellow stars quoted her anthem and referenced its historic nature.

Jimmy Webb wrote, “Farewell to a wonderful human and an incredible performer. Helen Reddy made her place in history with her song, ‘I Am Woman’ and a biopic on Helen with the same name is coming out soon. She is said to have cried after watching it. We will miss you Helen.

Speaking of the biopic, this is from the film’s director, Unjoo Moon:

From a fellow Aussie…

Janis Ian wrote, “From the time we were both nominated in the same category at the 1975 Grammys (when I won, she was among the first to stand and clap), to featuring me on her television show, to our appearance with Odetta at Madison Square Garden celebrating women and women’s rights, she was unfailingly generous and kind. A great example of what an artist should be, and how an artist should behave.”

From Academy Award-winning actress, Viola Davis: “Loved you Helen Reddy!! Your music was an anthem to all women! Your voice golden. Rest well!!”
