Grafton Street passersby were in for a treat on Christmas Eve, when Bono and a group of musician friends took to the bustling Dublin shopping hub to busk for charity, for the first time since 2013. It’s been an annual holiday tradition since 2009, but the classic rocker had to skip last year due to a bicycle injury.
In addition to the iconic U2 frontman, this year’s all-star line-up included fellow Irish performers The Frames frontman and Once star Glen Hansard, Hozier, Kodaline, The Script and Ronan Keating, among others, performing U2’s “Every Breaking Wave” and “When Love Comes to Town,” Hozier’s “Take Me to Church” and Kodaline’s “All I Want.” All proceeds from the unannounced show went to Dublin homeless charity Simon Community.
The Christmas Eve performance marked Bono’s second busking occasion this year. Back in May, U2 played a surprise show in disguise at the Grand Central Station subway stop in New York City.
