Devon Allman (l.) and Duane Betts

The sons of Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts, who have joined forces to form the Allman Betts Band, announced on Dec. 3 that they have finished recording a self-titled Allman Betts Band album. They also added dates to a worldwide tour that will feature new music, songs from their solo projects and classic Allman Brothers and Gregg Allman tunes in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Allman Brothers Band. The new album, which is slated to be released in the spring of 2019, was produced by Matt Ross-Spang (Jason Isbell, Margo Price, John Prine and Elvis Presley).

The new ABB will include Devon, Duane, Berry Oakley Jr. (son of original Allman Brothers Band bassist Berry Oakley), slide guitar virtuoso Johnny Stachela, newly added keyboardist John Ginty, and DAP percussionists R. Scott Bryan (Sheryl Crow) and John Lum. Peter Levin (Gregg Allman’s Hammond B3 player) and Chuck Leavell (former Allman Brothers Band keyboardist and current Rolling Stones keyboardist) also appear on the record.

Meanwhile, the second annual Allman Family Revival took place at the Fillmore in San Francisco on Dec. 8. Returning for its second year in celebration of Gregg Allman’s birthday, the evening featured Devon Allman, Duane Betts, Berry Oakley Jr., Luther and Cody Dickinson, G. Love, Samantha Fish, Jimmy Hall, Ally Venable, Alex Orbison and Marcus King. Brotherhood of Light, who are slated to tour with the new ABB in 2019, will provide visuals and lighting for the evening. Brotherhood of Light has worked with the Allman Brothers, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, the Doors, Led Zeppelin and the Who.

Before the launch of the ABB in 2019, Devon and Duane will be on tour through late February 2019, billed as the Devon Allman Project with special guest Duane Betts. (Tickets are here, here and here.)
