ZZ Top 2022 (l. to r.): Frank Beard, Billy Gibbons, Elwood Francis

Legendary classic rock bands ZZ Top and Lynyrd Skynyrd have announced their first co-headlining tour – The Sharp Dressed Simple Man Tour – coming to twenty-two cities for outdoor shows in North America in summer 2023. Produced by Live Nation, the tour kicks off on July 21 and continues through September 17. They’ll be joined by special guest, Uncle Kracker. Tickets to the general public go on sale starting Friday, Dec. 16 at 10 a.m. local time here. A pre-sale begins Dec. 13.

For Skynyrd, the run apparently extends their seemingly endless farewell tour. The band performed dozens of shows in 2022.

ZZ Top also had a busy calendar with an extensive summer run and more dates in the fall. Their line-up of Billy F Gibbons, Dusty Hill, and Frank Beard remained intact for more than 50 years. When Hill departed the tour in the summer of 2021, and later died, Elwood Francis entered the picture accepting the directive from Hill to be the perfect choice to stand in on the bass-guitar. He now handles the low-end duties for the band for the present as well as into the future.

This sounds like a winner. Too bad there are no Pacific Northwest dates.
