A new documentary, The Stones & Brian Jones, is coming to theaters for one day only, November 7, 2023. (The feature-length film, from director Nick Broomfield, will also be available for on-demand viewing on Nov. 17 on many streaming services, including Prime Video, YouTube and AppleTV.) When the film premiered in the U.K. earlier this year, it received four-star reviews from the Sunday Times, The Telegraph, The Guardian and the Financial Times. Watch the trailer below.
The Oct. 11 announcement from Magnolia Pictures notes the film “uncovers the true story and legacy of Brian Jones, the founder and creative genius of the Rolling Stones. As a schoolboy aged 14, Nick Broomfield met Brian Jones, by chance, on a train. Jones was at the height of his success, with the world at his feet, yet just six years later he would be dead. The Stones & Brian Jones looks at the relationships and rivalries within The Rolling Stones in those formative years and explores the iconoclastic freedom and exuberance of the 60s, a time of intergenerational conflict and sexual turmoil.
The Stones & Brian Jones features revealing interviews with all the main players and previously unseen archive footage and uncovers how the founder of what became the greatest rock and roll band in the world was left behind in the shadows of history. Founding member Bill Wyman serves as historical consultant.
Broomfield says of his inspiration to make the film, “The Rolling Stones were a major influence in my formative years. Brian and Mick were heroes of the day, their rebellion and breaking of the rules were a great inspiration to us. Making this film was an opportunity for me to look at that formative growing
up time until the shock of Brian’s death in 1969, the darkest moment in the history of The Stones, when things changed.”
Director Broomfield is the recipient of awards including Sundance First Prize, BAFTA, Prix Italia,
Dupont Peabody Award, Grierson Award, Hague Peace Prize, Amnesty International Doen Award.

Like a Shakespeare tradegy. Jones founded the band but was later fired for drinking and drugging. Rumor has it the band payed Jones groundskeeper to kill him and make it look like accidental drowning.
Brian Jones, the founder and leader of the Rolling Stones. Its about time for a documentary on him. Its time to set the record straight that he was murdered by his hired hand, Frank Thorogood. His death was ruled drowning by misadventure which isn’t true.
He didn’t write songs, but his versatility and creativity made every song better. There would be no Rolling Stones without him, and he still doesn’t get the credit he deserves from most people. Those who know better revere him.
