Ronnie Wood, longtime guitarist for the Rolling Stones, is feeling well after having successful keyhole surgery to remove a small lung lesion. Wood reported the news on his Facebook page on May 24, 2017. The lesion, said the post, was discovered during a routine screening. No additional treatment is necessary, and the Stones’ European tour will not be affected.
In a posted quote, Wood said, “I’m so grateful for modern screening which picked this up so early, and would like to thank all the doctors who treated me.”
Wood, who turns 70 on June 1, has been quite busy with the Stones and on his own in the past year. The band released its heralded all-blues album, Blue & Lonesome, late last year, and appeared at the two-weekend Desert Trip festival in California. The Stones are set to return to the road in September, with dates scheduled into late October throughout Europe.

Best Classic Bands reviewed the first of two Stones concerts at Desert Trip, last October, noting: “The Stones may not be the baddest band in the land anymore — despite [Mick] Jagger and [Ronnie] Wood’s efforts — but they still know how to put on a spectacle. Finishing their set with muscular versions of “Sympathy for the Devil,” “Brown Sugar” and “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” it was easy to tell with [Keith] Richards’ scorching guitar leading the way, that the band was cooking all night.”
