On February 20, Ringo Starr tweeted a photo of himself with Paul McCartney, writing “Thanks for coming over man and playing bass. I love you man peace and love.” Six emojis followed.
Through the winter and spring, Ringo continued the, er, drumbeat for his upcoming album, Give More Love, with more pics of guest musicians including Eagles members Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit, and classic rock musicians Jeff Lynne, Edgar Winter, Steve Lukather and Peter Frampton, who had joined him in the studio on the album, scheduled to arrive on September 15 via UMe.
Other guests include Dave Stewart, Richard Marx and All Starr Band members Richard Page and Gregg Bissonette.
Full details emerged about Give More Love when the, er, starr formally shared the news of the album on his birthday, July 7. That announcement revealed the name of the song that features both McCartney and Walsh: “We’re on the Road Again.” Lukather, who co-wrote the song with Ringo, plays guitar and keyboards on the song. Winter and Marx are among those singing backing vocals.
On July 27, Starr shared the song with his fans. And while we’re not quite turning the clock back to the days of Beatlemania, it’s a rare opportunity in recent years to hear Starr and McCartney recording together.
Starr will hit the road in the U.S. with his All Starrs, the same lineup he has performed with since 2012: Steve Lukather, Todd Rundgren, Gregg Rolie, Richard Page, Warren Hamm and Gregg Bissonette.
