Fans of Red Hot Chili Peppers have been waiting for a new studio album for nearly five years, ever since 2011’s I’m With You. But with their recent announcements of festival appearances and other tour dates, a new LP was a possibility. Today (May 5) the band released a song, “Dark Necessities,” and revealed that an album, The Getaway, is coming on June 17 (on Warner Bros. Records).
The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 and have sold approximately 80 million records worldwide, led by 1991’s Blood Sugar Sex Magik which featured “Give It Away” and “Under the Bridge,” among others. They’ve earned six Grammy Awards.
If you pre-order the album (see below), you’ll receive an instant download of the song. Within a half hour of the Chili Peppers posting it on their Facebook page, fan reaction was overwhelmingly positive.
