Several months after the Monkees’ Peter Tork died at 77, his family has scheduled a public event to be held on October 20 in Maryland, outside of Baltimore. Peter Tork: A Celebration of Life & Community will take place at Club 66 in Edgewood Md., and include a never-before-released 90-minute video of one of Tork’s Shoe Suede Blues concerts from 2012.
The ticketed event, priced at just $38, will be held on the same day as Tork’s Monkees bandmate, Micky Dolenz, performs in nearby Washington, DC, during his “It Was Fifty Years Ago Today” tour that he’s doing with Todd Rundgren Christopher Cross, Badfinger’s Joey Molland, and others, that celebrates the Beatles’ White Album.
Admission is $15 per children aged 5-9. No charge for children under five. Further details are available here.
Tork died February 21, 2019. He was diagnosed with a rare tongue cancer adenoid cystic carcinoma in 2009, but had recovered by 2012, touring with the other surviving members until 2016.

Of the event, Tork’s social media team notes: “We welcome you to one more casual and laid-back visit with our favorite Blues Boy in celebration of his life and deep love and appreciation for all of you in his wonderful Torkee community!
“When thinking about the time he would no longer be on this earth, Peter often said that he would not want any glitzy or flashy events, nor sad or solemn ceremonies. He wished, instead, that people would simply gather in a comfortable place to remember him in fellowship, enjoy good food, listen to music, and tell funny stories. We’d like to celebrate Peter by giving him his wish.”
In addition to the showing of the performance at the State Theater in Bay City, Mich., from September 8, 2012, the event will be an informal and intimate celebration and include a buffet lunch, lots of Tork/Shoe Suede Blues music, and other activities.

Attendees will receive commemorative pins, keepsake photograph tickets, and “a few other surprises.” Proceeds benefit The Davy Jones Equine Memorial Foundation, founded in 2012 by Jones’ daughters to protect and care for the herd of retired and rescued racehorses the singer left behind following his passing.
Peter Halsten Thorkelson was born Feb. 13, 1942, in Washington, D.C.
