Paul Sorvino, the acclaimed actor well known for his playing Paulie Cicero in the 1990 gangster film Goodfellas, as well as NYPD Sergeant Phil Cerreta on the TV drama Law & Order, died today (July 25, 2022). His death at age 83 from heart failure was announced by his wife, DeeDee Sorvino, on her Instagram account. The actor’s passing came almost two months to the day of the death of another Goodfellas star. Ray Liotta died on May 26 at age 67.

Sorvino’s daughter, the actress Mira Sorvino, wrote, “I love him so much. I’m sending you love in the stars as you ascend.”

At the 68th annual Academy Awards in 1996, Sorvino’s daughter, Mira Sorvino, won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the Woody Allen film Mighty Aphrodite. In her acceptance speech, she thanked her father. “When you give me this award, you honor my father, Paul Sorvino, who has taught me everything I know about acting,” she said. The camera cut to the proud and humbled father who visibly wept.

Her speech begins at the 1:28 mark.

Really enjoyed “Bert D’Angelo – Superstar”. It only ran for a few months, but a fun show. RIP Paul.

Paul Sorvino as Reverend Willie Williams, in the movie “Oh God” – Hilarious and classic.

Then to portray mob boss Paulie Cicero in “Goodfellas” – wow – what a talented and diverse actor.

Sad to hear of Paul Sorvino’s and Ray Liotta’s passing – both extremely convincing actors.
