Mike + The Mechanics have announced that Phil Collins’ son, Nic, is returning on drums for the “Looking Back – Living The Years 2025” tour. Nic first started playing with Mike Rutherford on the sold-out Genesis “The Last Domino?” tour in 2021/22 in which he drew praise. Rutherford subsequently invited him to join The Mechanics’ “Refuelled! Tour 2023” as the band’s drummer due to the unavailability of regular drummer Gary Wallis. It was a huge success giving the band a dynamic that thrilled crowds across Europe.

On rejoining the band, Collins said, “I’m thrilled to be heading back on the road with Mike + The Mechanics. The last tour was so much fun and I’m honored to have been asked to be a part of this next tour.” Collins, born April 21, 2001, had also performed on his father’s solo tours dating back to 2017.

In the Dec. 6 announcement, Rutherford said, “It’s great that Nic is joining us again. He brings a great energy to the band and it’s nice keeping it in the family.” Starting in March 2025 and playing through the U.K., this tour will see them play their hits including “The Living Years” and “All I Need Is a Miracle” as well as drift into some of Genesis’s much loved classic tracks. Tickets are available here and here.

Originally formed in 1985 by Rutherford as a side project to Genesis, Mike + The Mechanics originally featured Paul Young and Paul Carrack as frontmen, and together, they achieved huge commercial success throughout the ’80s and ’90s achieving hit singles all over the world and going on to sell over 10 million albums. After Young’s sudden death in 2000 the band released one further album before deciding to call it a day. In 2011, Rutherford started writing songs again and invited Andrew Roachford and Tim Howar to join him and their chemistry was instant. They recorded and released The Road album and the band began touring again with significant success and have remained together since.
