Two days before the December 18 release of his new solo album, McCartney III, Paul McCartney has released the trailer of an upcoming documentary. The clip, on YouTube, is currently identified as Paul McCartney x Rick Rubin – A Documentary Series Event. McCartney’s website notes “Keep your eyes peeled in 2021 for more information.”

The website, Deadline.com, reports that the pair are producing a six-part documentary series, describing it as a “behind-the-scenes magical mystery tour of McCartney’s unbelievable musical journey… from his first guitar and composition all the way to through the legendary and prolific success of The Beatles.”

The roughly one-and-a-half-minute teaser, shot entirely in black-and-white, features the musician and the acclaimed producer discussing a number of Beatles songs, accompanied by archival footage. At various times the sounds of “Lovely Rita,” “Paperback Writer,” “Come Together,” and others, are heard.

“It feels as if the bass is doing what an orchestra would do,” says Rubin in the clip, which was posted on Dec. 16. “You can actually control the band with the bass,” responds McCartney, as he demonstrates his point.

Towards the end, following the sound of the orchestra in “Live and Let Die,” McCartney says “that was one of the greatest music moments of my life,” although it’s not entirely clear from the clip’s editing whether he was, indeed, referring to the 1973 Wings single. (Thus, Deadline.com’s reference to the series being through his success with the Beatles isn’t entirely accurate.)

Rubin is an eight-time Grammy Award winner and has produced or collaborated with such acts as Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Johnny Cash, the Beastie Boys, Run-DMC, Mick Jagger, and Adele, among many others.

I can’t wait to see this. Hopefully its only about the music . I love docs that play the music tracks that refreshes the artists memories , much like those classic album series did.
