Eric Clapton performing at London’s Royal Albert Hall on May 8, 2022
Eric Clapton will be doing a brief tour of the U.S. and Canada in September. The five dates, announced on March 27, 2023, follow the news of a pair of tribute concerts for Jeff Beck that are to be held on May 22-23 at London’s Royal Albert Hall. On Dec. 22, 2022, he revealed a six-night residency at Tokyo’s famous Budokan for this April. Ticket sales for the North American concerts, scheduled for September 8-16, go on sale March 31 at 10 a.m. local time here, the day after he turns 78. It’s been rumored that Clapton will be hosting a Crossroads Guitar Festival this year, his first since 2019.
2023 also marks Clapton’s 60th year as a professional musician. The legendary guitarist joined The Yardbirds in 1963 and the following years saw him join John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith, Delaney & Bonnie & Friends, and Derek and the Dominos along with a solo career spanning five decades.
In Tokyo, Clapton will be accompanied by his long-running concert band, including Nathan East (bass), Chris Stainton (keyboards), Doyle Bramhall II (guitar), Sonny Emory (drums), and Sharon White and Katie Kissoon (backing vocalists). Clapton’s frequent opening act, Jimmie Vaughan, will again do the honors at the North American concerts in September.

After years of eschewing tours for clusters of individual shows, Clapton had a busy 2022. He played a European tour during the spring and a U.S. tour in September.
