The Guns N’ Roses singer is said to be stepping in to take singer Brian Johnson’s place in the Australian hard rock band. No one is confirming or denying yet, but the rumors are certainly surprising, coming as they are in the midst of Gn’R ramping up to a reunion of four of its original members for at least six shows next month.
AC/DC postponed 10 U.S. dates of its current tour earlier this month due to Johnson’s hearing loss problems (see our report here), but said they would make up the shows, possibly with “guest vocalists.” Reports say the band is in Atlanta, GA trying out singers. Rose was spotted at the Atlanta airport last weekend departing for Los Angeles where he told a fan to expect a Guns ‘N Roses tour.
Atlanta Rock 100.5 DJ Jason Bailey claims that a “very, very good source” confirmed to him that the collaboration was happening. “This is what I’m being told: Axl was meeting with the AC/DC group, because it’s all but a done deal that Axl will front AC/DC for the 10 remaining shows.” It’s unclear what the band will do regarding 12 European shows slated to begin on May 7th in Lisbon, Portugal and wrap up on June 12 in Aarhus, Denmark.
Meanwhile, back in Los Angeles, as we just reported, the Whisky A Go Go club has hinted that a canceled April 1st show by former Gn’R guitarist Steven Adler’s band would be a Guns appearance instead.
An AC/DC spokesperson told England’s New Musical Express that the band has “nothing official to announce. Will update you if that changes.” The son of retired AC/DC guitarist Malcolm Young posted on Facebook lat night (3/23) that the Rose rumors are true, but later deleted the post.
We will bring you any further news on Rose and both bands as soon as we learn it.
