Eagles, Poco Member Timothy B Schmit to Release Solo Album
by Best Classic Bands StaffTimothy B. Schmit, former vocalist, songwriter and bass player with two of the biggest names in classic rock, the Eagles and Poco, will release a new solo album, Leap of Faith, September 23 on Benowen Records. Recorded at his Los Angeles studio and co-produced with engineer Hank Linderman, the album is described as picking up where Schmit’s previous solo release, 2009’s Expando, left off.
“Again, I wanted to write this album on my own,” Schmit said in an announcement. “In any collaboration one has to make a series of compromises. That’s not a bad thing; it’s simply not what I’ve chosen to do with this project. I’m just putting it out there, and maybe some of these ideas might resonate with listeners.”
The music on the album is described a “strong mix of rock, country, Americana, R&B and even a bit of reggae.” In the press release, Schmit talks about why he wanted to use Linderman as co-producer. “I hired Hank quite a few years ago to help me learn how to maneuver through my then-new demo studio,” says Schmit. “But as the studio grew I eventually chose to concentrate on my craft, so I put him in charge of the technical part, among other things. He is an excellent engineer, musician and singer.” (Linderman has also worked both on the Eagles last studio album and Don Henley’s recent solo project.)
In September, Schmit will perform at the Americana Music Festival & Conference in Nashville and will be a presenter at the Americana Music Awards show at Ryman Auditorium on September 21. The following night, he’ll perform a concert during “Music City Roots” at Factory at Franklin, which will be live-streamed on September 22. The show will be broadcast nationally on PBS at a later date. Then, on September 25, Schmit and his band will perform a one-night-only concert at City Winery in Nashville.
