The Rolling Stones have announced details of their previously unreleased 1989 concert film, Steel Wheels Live – Atlantic City, New Jersey. This latest release from the band’s archives has been restored, remixed and remastered and will be available on multiple formats on September 25 via Eagle Rock Entertainment. The collection includes guest performances from Eric Clapton, John Lee Hooker, and others.

Watch and listen to several of them below.

The Steel Wheels tour was the Stones‘ first to hit the U.S. since 1981, and it was famously one of their longest, and most ambitious, setlists. Mixed in with such classic rock favorites as “Jumping Jack Flash,” “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” and “Gimme Shelter,” were new performances from 1989’s Steel Wheels album, including “Mixed Emotions” and “Rock and a Hard Place.”

A highlight of this particular tour stop on Dec. 19, 1989, were the special guests: Eric Clapton brought his slow blues burn to “Little Red Rooster” and also joined the Stones in backing up one of their idols, blues legend John Lee Hooker, on “Boogie Chillen.”

Guns N’ Roses’ Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin joined in for the first-ever live performance of “Salt of the Earth,” from 1968’s Beggars Banquet.

Steel Wheels Live will be released as a limited 180gm 4-LP colored vinyl, DVD + 2-CD, SD-Blu-ray + 2-CD and digital formats. Additionally, the set will be released as a special limited 6-disc version, which includes the Atlantic City performance on DVD, SD-Blu-ray, 2-CD, a DVD of their Steel Wheels tour performance at the famed Tokyo Dome, as well as Steel Wheels Rare Reels, a CD featuring tracks which didn’t feature on the core tour setlist.

A double A-sided 10” picture disc of “Rock and a Hard Place” (Live from Atlantic City) and “Almost Hear You Sigh” (Live from Tokyo Dome) will be released for Record Store Day’s second drop date of the year, on Sept. 26. This format will be exclusive to independent record stores all over the world.

Wasn’t this, or some form of it, released as “Flashpoint” back in 1990?
