A new book, Tribute: Cocker Power, which invites readers to “Relive the legendary 1970 Joe Cocker Mad Dogs & Englishmen Tour and the 2015 tribute concert at the Lockn’ Festival with Tedeschi Trucks Band, both of which were captured by the lens of tour photographer Linda Wolf,” will be published April 28 by Insight Editions.

The 336-page hardcover, says a press release, “features exclusive, never-before-seen documentary photos, stories, and vignettes from both the Joe Cocker Mad Dogs & Englishmen Tour, which has been called one of the greatest rock-and-roll tours of all time, and the 2015 tribute concert at the Lockn’ Festival with Tedeschi Trucks Band and the original tour alumni.”

The author is hosting a Cocker Power Spectacular live stream event on Sunday, April 26, which is the 50th anniversary of original tour making their historic stop at Fillmore West. In addition to offering her own personal stories from the Joe Cocker: Mad Dogs & Englishmen tour, Wolf will interview a host of original MD&E band members, along with artists who participated in the Lockn’ Festival tribute concert. Full lineup and more information can be found here.

The announcement further states, “This visually stunning volume includes contributions from over one hundred musicians and crew members, including Leon Russell, Chris Stainton, Rita Coolidge, Claudia Lennear, Derek Trucks and many more. A true labor of love to all who played a part in these exceptional times in the history of music and culture, and to everyone, collectively, who played their part in making it all happen, Tribute: Cocker Power is a must-have for devoted fans and newcomers alike.”

Linda Wolf, the announcement says, “is a humanistic photographer, known for her global portraiture that focuses on women and indigenous cultures. Over her 50 years as an artist she has moved seamlessly through being one of the first female rock and roll photographers, to photojournalism and fine art, street and portrait photography. Her work is part of numerous collections in institutions, libraries, and museums worldwide. Learn more about Wolf and her work at lindawolf.net.”

Wolf’s website includes a sample tribute, from Derek Trucks: “When you look at this book you can see it is a labor of love. When you look at the photos both from the original 1970 Mad Dogs Tour and the 2015 reunion at Lockin’, and those she did later of our band on the road, you get the sense that everyone really trusts and opens up to Linda and that she is really in it. A lot of times I notice photos of us and I think they’re nice but I think but they don’t capture the sense of the people as I know them, but when I look at all the images in this book—the ones of Kofi or Sue or the people that I know intimately—I really feel them. Linda captures the real personal side of people and the vulnerable side a lot of times, as well. The photo she caught of Kofi and me with our eyes closed playing together in Portland, that’s the one I’ve been looking for since he passed. Those are the images that you say, ‘Yea, I knew that happened, I felt that.’ Those images hit home. Just like with the original photos from Mad Dogs you can tell that she is taking pictures of people she really cares about and she is going for the authentic moments. Linda’s photos have real heart to them, a real warmth that I appreciate and am honestly moved by. I can’t wait to hold this book and dig into it when it’s out.”
