If you don’t want to ante up for all the albums by Cat Stevens (aka Yusuf) but find his previous hits collections too skimpy, you’ll be glad to hear there’s a new option: the two-CD On the Road to Findout, which offers a comprehensive survey of his entire career. The album, which is also available on vinyl and shares a title with Stevens’ forthcoming memoir, includes many remastered tracks. The Sept. 5, 2025, release comes with a 24-page booklet that contains lyrics to all the songs, plus new notes about them from the singer.
The chronologically arranged collection culls 32 numbers from Stevens’ 1967-1978 heyday. Also featured are 15 tracks originally issued between 2006, when he returned to secular music after producing several Islamic-themed albums, and 2023, when he last released new material, on King of a Land.
Though a few of Stevens’ minor chart tunes are missing, On the Road to Findout embraces all of his bestselling singles, such as “Wild World,” “Peace Train,” “Morning Has Broken” and “Another Saturday Night,” a Sam Cooke cover.
Other highlights include his own versions of his “Here Comes My Baby” and “The First Cut Is the Deepest,” which respectively provided major hits for the Tremeloes and Rod Stewart; an acoustic version of George Harrison’s “Here Comes the Sun”; and such relatively recent tracks as the lilting “Maybe There’s a World,” which limns a borderless planet not unlike the one described in John Lennon’s “Imagine.”
The album, via A&M/UMe, in a variety of CD and LP formats, is available in the U.S. here, in Canada here and in the U.K. here.
