Update (Oct. 23): Bob Seger’s social media team has offered a brief medical update via his Facebook page: “Bob is on the road to recovery after undergoing surgery on Friday [Oct. 20] to address the medical issue causing the postponement of his tour. According to his doctors the surgery ‘couldn’t have gone better.’ Bob wants to thank all his fans for the outpouring of well wishes and support. We hope to have news regarding dates for the tour soon.”
Our original item from Oct. 3…
When Bob Seger postponed a sole date on his current Runaway Train tour–his Sept. 30 concert in Columbus, OH–it appeared to be a case of the 72-year-old classic rock legend perhaps having overextending himself on his arena tour. Not so.
Seger announced today (Oct. 3) that he has suspended the tour upon receiving his doctor’s orders to attend to an urgent medical issue concerning his vertebrae. No further details are available at this time.
Seger said: “I’m so disappointed to have to suspend the tour as the band is on a great roll. It’s a privilege to play for our amazing fans. Hoping to be back out on the road very soon.”
Seger and his Silver Bullet Band played the 13th sold out show of their 2017 Runaway Train Tour last Thursday (Sept. 28) in Pittsburgh. On Saturday, Seger announced the postponement of that evening’s concert at Columbus’ Nationwide Arena.
Rescheduled dates will be announced when available. Tickets sold for concerts that are being rescheduled will be honored at the new dates.

At the recent concerts, Seger talked about his upcoming album, I Knew You When, scheduled to arrive on Nov. 17. A first single, “Busload of Faith,” based on a Lou Reed song, has been at radio for several weeks. Seger hasn’t made the song available for streaming and the album isn’t available for pre-order yet.
