Aerosmith announced today (May 24, 2022) that Steven Tyler has entered a treatment program due to a relapse. The band has thus postponed the June and July dates of what was to be the return of their Las Vegas residency, Deuces Are Wild, at Dolby Live at Park MGM.

The post on Aerosmith’s Facebook page noted, “As many of you know, our beloved brother Steven has worked on his sobriety for many years. After foot surgery to prepare for the stage and the necessity of pain management during the process, he has recently relapsed and voluntarily entered a treatment program to concentrate on his health and recovery.”

The March 23, 2022 announcement notes that the shows will be presented in Dolby Atmos®. The original March 23 news of the resumption of their Vegas residency followed their Jan. 31 announcement that the band had canceled their 2022 European tour, citing “the related uncertainty around travel logistics and the continued presence of COVID restrictions and other issues.” The Vegas residency was to consist of 24 shows, with eight in June and July, and the remaining performances in the fall. The group’s only other scheduled date is a hometown concert at Boston’s Fenway Park in September.

When the shows do take place, they will mark the delayed celebration of Aerosmith’s 50th anniversary of their formation. Their last concert was on February 15, 2020 at Park MGM.

The May 24 cancellation announcement continued.”We are truly sorry to inform our fans and friends that we must cancel our first set of Las Vegas Residency dates this June and July while he focuses on his well-being.

“We will continue our 2022 dates starting in September, and we’ll let you know any further updates as soon as we can. We are devastated that we have inconvenienced so many of you, especially our most loyal fans who often travel great distances to experience our shows.

“Thank you for your understanding and for your support for Steven during this time.

“If you purchased your tickets via Ticketmaster, you will be refunded and will receive an email shortly with details, otherwise please contact your point of purchase for information on refunds.”

Aerosmith’s Deuces Are Wild opened in April 2019. Dolby Live is described in the announcement as “one of the world’s most technologically advanced performance venues of its kind and preeminent locations for enjoying live musical performances in Dolby Atmos.”

In an interview from June 2021, the band’s Brad Whitford said he doubted whether the band would ever perform again. In an appearance on Joe Bonamassa’s interview series, Live From Nerdville, Whitford cited the band’s age as the key reasons.

“I have my doubts about Aerosmith ever really performing again at this stage, because age is becoming a real factor,” he said, as transcribed by Blabbermouth.net.

Whitford is the youngest member of the band; he turned 70 in February. Steven Tyler turns 74 on March 26. Joe Perry turned 70 last September. Joey Kramer turns 71 in June. Tom Hamilton turned 70 last December.

Besides the Vegas shows still scheduled this fall, Aerosmith’s only other 2022 dates are in September, including one at Boston’s Fenway Park.

Aerosmith should do a 40th Anniversary Tour of “Rock In A Hard Place”. Great album and line-up. Make a call to Jimmy Crespo and Rick DuFay. Get them back and tour.

I hate all the wasted time between new albums! 10 plus years more than once yeah 50 years but not really. I want new music and not re-release the same stuff. They have to have unreleased stuff and a ton of live stuff they could put out! Many fans would love a chance to hear as many live shows as possible and I know they have most of their career taped! Same with ACDC; too much wasted time it’s a sad shame!!!

You guys are my favorite band ever.. But I really don’t think I’ll ever fly to Vegas. I was fortunate enough to see you all in Buffalo but wanted my kids to get the same great experience now that they are a little older..
