Expect a new studio album some time next year from Paul McCartney.
Just before Christmas, McCartney answered some questions on his website. He was asked: “What would you like to achieve in 2018?”
His reply: “I’ll probably be putting out a new album. So, I’d like that to be something I really love and then hopefully the fans will love it too! We’re putting the finishing touches to it now and at the beginning of next year. So, I would like to achieve making that a really great album. Fingers crossed! That’s not what it’s called, but fingers crossed! [Pauses] It could be… it COULD be the new album title!”
The upcoming album will be released by Capitol Records. McCartney returned to his longtime home in a new deal announced last Aug. 17. In that announcement, he said: “This is genuinely exciting for me. Not only was Capitol my first U.S. record label, but the first record I ever bought was Gene Vincent’s ‘Be-Bop-A-Lula’ on the Capitol label.”
Last March 25, Macca gave an interview to BBC Radio 6’s Matt Everitt on the occasion of the reissue of his 1989 collaboration with Elvis Costello, Flowers in the Dirt. McCartney discussed that album and what it was like to work with Costello, as compared to writing songs with John Lennon, and also talked about his collaborations with Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and Kayne West.
During the chat, McCartney revealed that he’s been in the studio with American record producer Greg Kurstin, with whom he worked on music for an animated film two years ago.

In an article in Billboard recapping highlights of the BBC interview, McCartney said of Kurstin, “He just got song of the year, record of the year with Adele. And just got producer of the year. So my only worry is people are going to go, ‘Uhhhhh, there’s Paul going with the flavor of the month.’ You know, I suppose you always think the worst of it. But he’s a great guy. Greg is musical and he’s great to work with.”
No release date for the upcoming album has been announced. Besides Adele, Kurstin has also produced albums for, among others, Beck and Foo Fighters.
