It would have seemed unthinkable in the 1960s and ’70s for any credible rock acts (other than Elvis Presley). But these days classic rockers are flocking to Las Vegas to play residencies. And the latest to announce one are British musical mystics The Moody Blues, who will appear in a five-night limited engagement at The Venetian Theatre this fall.
Billed at “Nights in Las Vegas,” the shows on October 7, 8, 12, 14 & 15 will feature an exclusive career-spanning set list that will feature such popular Moodies songs as “Nights in White Satin,” “Tuesday Afternoon,” “The Story in Your Eyes,” “Isn’t Life Strange,” “Wildest Dreams” and others. The group features Justin Hayward (lead guitar, vocals), John Lodge (bass guitar, vocals), and founding member Graeme Edge (drums).
The Moody Blues first came to prominence in 1964 with the #10 hit song “Go Now,” sung by founder Denny Laine, who would leave the group not long after for a solo career as well as membership in Paul McCartney’s band Wings. They made their lasting imprint on popular music with the 1967 album Days of Future Passed, a landmark fusion of rock and orchestral music that yielded the single “Nights in White Satin,” which reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1972 after a long, slow climb in popularity.
“Playing at Las Vegas has always been a real pleasure for us – and for our devoted fans,” says Hayward. “It’s a chance for them to gather together with their favorite group, settled for a more than one night in a vibrant, exciting setting. “We are really looking forward to our concerts at The Venetian – and I shall celebrate my birthday there. What could be nicer?”
In other band news, they embark on their third Moody Blues cruise in the Caribbean today (February 26). Guest acts include The Zombies, Christopher Cross, Renaissance, Rare Earth, John Waite and others.
Tickets for the October dates go on sale on March 4th and are available here. Details on VIP packages that include a meet and greet and photo op with the band will be announced March 1st.
