Apivotal member of a band with one of the most acclaimed live classic rock albums of all-time – The Allman Brothers Band At Fillmore East – has finally released his own live album. Gregg Allman Live: Back to Macon, GA (on Rounder Records) features the iconic singer-guitarist and his eight-piece solo band in a performance recorded on January 14, 2014 at the Grand Opera House, the Georgia town where it all began for the Allman Brothers Band over 40 years ago.
The collection is available on CD, vinyl, DVD and Blu-ray and features such Allman Brothers Band favorites as “Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More” (the first song he wrote after his brother Duane’s death in 1971), “Statesboro Blues” and “Whipping Post.”
“We played, lived, laughed and cried there,” writes Allman about Macon in the liner notes. “And I wrote many, many songs in that town.”
The blues singer and his solo band just announced that they are turning to the Grand Opera House for two shows, January 12 and 13, 2016. Allman is hosting his first Laid Back Festival on August 29 on Long Island, featuring performances by The Doobie Brothers, Bruce Hornsby and The Noisemakers and others.
