A new musical drama series based on the best-selling novel, Daisy Jones & The Six, about a rock band in the late ’70s, debuted on Prime Video on March 2, 2023, with the first three episodes. The fictitious Los Angeles-based band, made up of two women and four men, bears more than a passing resemblance to the Fleetwood Mac lineup of the same era. Riley Keough, who plays the series’ namesake character, Daisy Jones, is the granddaughter of Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley. Her parents are musician Danny Keough and the late Lisa Marie Presley.

As of March 2, the series had a 75% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The San Francisco Chronicle wrote, “Imperfect and fault-ridden like the people it depicts, “Daisy Jones & the Six” has a hard-earned forgiving heart that may leave you a blubbering mess.” The Hollywood Reporter called it “a good show, not a great one.” The Daily Beast described it as “Akin to most rock albums: a collection of super hits surrounded by more than a few skippable tracks.”

Watch the official trailer below, and listen to some of the 24 original songs written exclusively for the series and recorded by the cast. The original music will be released by Atlantic Records during the rollout of the series, with new episodes released every Friday through March 24, exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

From the studio’s announcement: Based on Taylor Jenkins Reid’s novel, the limited series detailing the rise and precipitous fall of a renowned rock band. In 1977, Daisy Jones & The Six were on top of the world. Fronted by two charismatic lead singers—Daisy Jones (played by the 33-year-old Keough) and Billy Dunne (Sam Claflin)—the band had risen from obscurity to fame, behind the success of their album, Aurora. And then, after a sold-out show at Chicago’s Soldier Field, they called it quits. Now, decades later, the band members finally agree to reveal the truth. This is the story of how an iconic band imploded at the height of its powers.

“Your first single, and it hits number one… how do you top that?”

The series also stars Camila Morrone as Camila Dunne, Will Harrison as Graham Dunne, Suki Waterhouse as Karen Sirko, Josh Whitehouse as Eddie Roundtree, Sebastian Chacon as Warren Rojas, Nabiyah Be as Simone Jackson, and Tom Wright as Teddy Price, with a special guest appearance by Timothy Olyphant as Rod Reyes.

Its author, Reid, has said that the book was partly inspired by watching performances on television.

From Amazon Studios and Hello Sunshine, Daisy Jones & The Six is executive produced by Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine and Brad Mendelsohn for Circle of Confusion. Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber created the series based on the novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid, who also produces. The ten-episode series will feature original songs written and produced by Grammy Nominated producer Blake Mills and a number of other co-writers including Phoebe Bridgers and Marcus Mumford.
