Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival to Make Vinyl Debut
by Best Classic Bands StaffMusic from Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival, which the guitarist founded in 2004, will make its vinyl debut. The 6-LP set, due December 6 via Rhino, will feature 40 live performances by Clapton, and fellow classic rock guitar greats Jeff Beck, Ronnie Wood, Carlos Santana, Joe Walsh, Buddy Guy, Steve Winwood, B.B. King, Sheryl Crow, and Willie Nelson, among many others, from the 2004, 2007, 2010 and 2013 festivals.
The historic performances were previously released on DVD, Blu-ray, CD compilations. by some of the world’s greatest guitarists.
Crossroads Revisted: Selections From the Crossroads Guitar Festival also includes performances such such world class guitarists as Gary Clark Jr., Robert Cray, Billy F Gibbons, Vince Gill, John Mayer, Jimmie Vaughan, and more. From the Oct. 14 announcement: Performances by Clapton are featured throughout the collection, including his cover of George Harrison’s “Isn’t It A Pity” and an electric version of “Layla” that was included as a “hidden” track on the Crossroads Guitar Festival 2004 DVD. It also includes “After Midnight” with J.J. Cale, who wrote the song, and Blind Faith’s “Presence of the Lord” with his former bandmate Winwood.

Many all-star jams are included: “Paying the Cost to Be the Boss” with King, Cray, Vaughan and Hubert Sumlin; “Five Long Years” with Guy, Wood and Jonny Lang; and “Steamroller” with James Taylor and Walsh.

The Crossroads Guitar Festival is held every three years. It raises funds for the Crossroads Centre in Antigua, a treatment and education facility that Clapton founded in 1998 to help people suffering from chemical dependency.
