Great news: Ten days after saying that he was postponing the current leg of his Out of the Blues tour due to undisclosed health reasons, singer, songwriter and guitarist Boz Scaggs announced on July 2 that he is “feeling great” and rescheduled the concerts. The tour began August 11 and he has since added dates through November. (See the updated itinerary below.)
On June 22 Scaggs postponed the June and July dates. At the time, the beloved noted: “I am going to follow doctors orders so I can get back out on the road as soon as possible.”
Scaggs has dozens of 2019 concerts in support of his album, Out of the Blues, released July 27, 2018, via Concord Records. The album was produced by Scaggs and includes vintage classics and originals.
Here’s the complete original June 22 post from Scaggs’ Facebook page:
It is with deep regret that we announce the postponement of the current leg of Boz’s Out Of The Blues Tour due to health reasons. Boz has been advised by his doctors that he cannot tour at this time. With some rest he is expected to make a full and swift recovery.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“I am so sorry to have to miss these shows,” the announcement quoted Scaggs. “Playing for you all is my greatest joy. I hate to disappoint you. I am going to follow doctors orders so I can get back out on the road as soon as possible. Looking forward to seeing you all then.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The post continued: This announcement effects our tour dates from June 21st through July 9th. We are already working on rescheduling as many shows as we can and we will get back to you all as quickly as we can. Ticket buyers who would like to request a refund to a show affected by this announcement can do so at your original point of purchase. We apologize to all the fans for this inconvenience.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It closed: Thank you all for your concern and understanding. With a little time to heal, Boz will be back.
Watch him perform a favorite on August 16
After gaining fame in the 1960s as a guitarist and one-time lead singer with the Steve Miller Band, Scaggs earned six solo Top 20 hit singles from 1976 – 1980, including “Lowdown” and “Lido Shuffle” from the critically acclaimed Silk Degrees. That album reached number two in the U.S. and #1 in many other countries, leading to a sold-out world tour. Although he spent much of the ’80s in retirement, operating San Francisco nightclub Slim’s, he made his comeback in 1988 with the record Other Roads. Since 2010, Scaggs has occasionally been performing with supergroup The Dukes of September alongside Steely Dan’s Donald Fagen and Michael McDonald.
Scaggs turned 75 on June 8 of this year.
Out of the Blues follows 2015’s A Fool to Care and 2013’s Memphis. The album features performances by guitarists Doyle Bramhall II, Ray Parker Jr. and Charlie Sexton, bassist Willie Weeks, drummer Jim Keltner and keyboardist Jim Cox, as well as longtime friend Jack Walroth on guitar, harmonica and percussion.
