There have been two popular English singers named Paul Young. (The solo singer enjoyed seven Top 10 singles in the U.K., including one that reached #1 in the U.S., “Every Time You Go Away.”) The other Paul Young earned success with Sad Café (and later with Mike + the Mechanics).

Sad Cafe was founded in 1976 by former members of two top Manchester bands, Mandalaband and Gyro. Until the early ’80s Sad Cafe, with Young on lead vocals, enjoyed success with several singles including “Every Day Hurts,” “Strange Little Girl,” “My Oh My” and “I’m In Love Again.”

Renaissance Records has announced the March 19, 2021, release of Anthology on vinyl, a compilation album with nineteen career spanning songs.

The deluxe 2-LP, packaged on 180g vinyl, includes a poster, lyric sheet and tradings cards of the original band members.

Sad Cafe was led by their lineup of Young, vocalist and guitarist Ian Wilson, late keyboardist Vic Emerson, bassist John Stimpson, vocalist and guitarist Ashley Mulford and drummer Dave Irving. Young died on July 15, 2000, at age 53.
