Nicolette Larson will be the subject of her first, definitive anthology of her recordings for Warner Bros. in the late ’70s and early ’80s. The singer made a significant splash in 1978 with the release of her debut album, Nicolette, and its first single. That song, “Comes a Time,” written by Neil Young, reached #1 on the U.S. Adult/Contemporary chart and #8 on the Hot 100. The recording kicks off Look In My Direction: The Warner Bros. Recordings, coming from the U.K. label Cherry Red Records’ Lemon imprint. The 4-CD set, due November 14, 2025, is available for pre-order in the U.S. here and in the U.K. here.

The collection features all of Larson’s original albums for the label, all produced by in-house staffer Ted Templeman (The Doobie Brothers, Van Halen) and singer-songwriter Andrew Gold, as well as numerous bonus tracks. The 57 recordings of classic Southern California rock and pop, akin to “Yacht Rock,” feature contributions from many stars of the era including Linda Ronstadt, The Doobie Brothers’ Michael McDonald, Pat Simmons, Tom Johnston, Tiran Porter, John McFee, and Bobby LaKind, Little Feat’s Bill Payne, Paul Barrere, and Fred Tackett, Eddie Van Halen, Ronnie Montrose, Van Dyke Parks, Valerie Carter, and Klaus Voormann. The set also includes Larson’s back-up work for fellow artists Christopher Cross, Emmylou Harris, and Steve Goodman.

Look In My Direction is produced and annotated by Joe Marchese of Second Disc Records whose notes feature archival quotes from Larson, Young, Templeman, Gold, Ronstadt, and Russ Kunkel, whom Larson married in 1990.

From the label’s announcement: Larson rose to fame singing with Young on his classic albums American Stars ‘n Bars and Comes a Time. Signed to Warner Bros. Records as a solo artist, she teamed with a “Who’s Who” of the West Coast rock scene for four studio albums and one live set that effortlessly blended pop, rock, soul, R&B, country, gospel, bluegrass, and jazz.

Besides “Lotta Love” (heard in its original album version, 12-inch single remix, and The Lotta Nic Mix), are songs by JD Souther and Glenn Frey (“Last in Love”), Jackson Browne (“I’ll Fly Away (Without You)”), Burt Bacharach (“Mexican Divorce”), Leon Russell (“Say You Will”), Bill and Fran Payne (“Give a Little”), Michael McDonald (the duet “Let Me Go, Love”), and Lowell George (“Trouble”) plus soulful covers of Dusty Springfield’s “I Only Want to Be with You,” Marvin Gaye’s “Baby Don’t You Do It,” and The Supremes’ “Back in My Arms (Again).”

Larson died in Los Angeles on December 16, 1997. She was just 45 years old.
