Band’s Garth Hudson Plus Taj Mahal Join The Last Waltz 40 Tour

The Band’s Garth Hudson will be joining all remaining 2017 dates of The Last Waltz 40 Tour, which celebrates the 40th anniversary of The Band‘s final concert. Two-time Grammy Award winner Taj Mahal also joins the lineup that includes Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Dr. John, Grammy Award-winning guitarist-vocalist Warren Haynes (Gov’t Mule, The Allman Brothers Band, The Dead) and Grammy-winning producer-musician Don Was. The Last Waltz 40 Tour lineup will also include ACM Award-winning singer/songwriter Jamey Johnson, funk drummer Terence Higgins (Dirty Dozen Brass Band), Danny Louis, an all-star horn section led by Mark Mullins featuring the original horn arrangements of Allen Toussaint, and special guests Cyril Neville, Dave Malone, and Bob Margolin. Other very special guests to be announced.

The evening’s repertoire includes such Band favorites as “Up on Cripple Creek,” “Stage Fright,” “Ophelia,” “Life is a Carnival” and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.”

“Whenever you’re doing someone else’s music, you’re paying respect and bringing the deepest parts of your own personality to bear. And you hope for surprises,” Haynes told the Philadelphia Inquirer. “These songs – so deeply ingrained in the zeitgeist of who we are in this country – hearing them now is like finding a rare jewel.”

“People love these songs. And unlike the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Bob Dylan, the Beach Boys or Pink Floyd songs, there’s nobody that’s playing this stuff for folks. You can’t really go to a concert and hear anyone playing The Band’s songs,” said Don Was.

“The Last Waltz 40 Tour: A Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of The Last Waltz” is an extension of Blackbird Present’s two-night, sold-out concert event “Last Waltz New Orleans” which took place during Jazz Fest 2016 at the historic Saenger Theatre.
