Taron Egerton as Elton John in 2019’s Rocketman biopic

Paramount Pictures has released the first teaser trailer for its upcoming Elton John biopic, Rocketman. The film, described as an “epic musical fantasy,” is expected to be released on May 17, 2019, while its subject is in the midst of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour. Rocketman stars 28-year-old actor Taron Egerton as the classic rock star. The studio describes the film as the “uncensored human story of Sir Elton John’s breakthrough years.”

The Welsh actor is known for his role as Gary “Eggsy” Unwin in the 2014 film, Kingsman: The Secret Service, and its 2017 sequel, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, as well as 2016’s Eddie the Eagle. His latest starring role, Robin Hood, opposite Jamie Foxx, opens November 21, 2018.

Rocketman also stars Jamie Bell as lyricist Bernie Taupin, and Richard Madden as John’s manager John Reid.

John’s tour began September 8 in Allentown, Penn., and its first leg runs through mid-December 2018 in North America. (Read our recap of opening night here.)

The #EltonFarewellTour resumes, after a four-week break, with another lengthy U.S. run. After another break, it resumes with a roughly two-month European leg. Newly announced dates in the U.S. and Canada begin in September 2019 and are scheduled through mid-November 2019. A list of dates is here.

Tickets for the new dates go on sale in October and November. Fans must first register with Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program here. (Tickets for the existing dates are available here and here)

The concerts feature 24 songs of the performer’s classic rock hits including such favorites as “Your Song,” “Philadelphia Freedom,” “Tiny Dancer” and “Burn Down the Mission.” One highlight has been a rollicking version of “Levon.”
