Eddie Money has announced that he’s postponing all tour dates and his new album release to focus on his health. The singer is recovering from a heart valve procedure that has reportedly encountered difficulties. On July 11, his family offered an update, noting “Eddie’s health is the most important thing to the family at the moment.

“Eddie is recovering and doing well,” the family wrote. “[He] can’t wait to get back out there and share new music with you! Thank you for all your love and support, it means the world.”

On August 24, though, it was revealed that Money had received a cancer diagnosis which will be detailed in a special episode of his AXS TV reality show, Real Money, that will air on Thursday, September 12 at 9:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. PT. Real Money follows the daily lives of Money, his wife, and their five children, both at home and on the road. The series returns to AXS TV’s fall schedule on a new night and time, Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. ET.

UPDATE: On September 13, Money’s family announced that the rocker had died

A report on July 5 from TMZ noted the classic rock veteran developed pneumonia. On May 28, he announced that he would be taking time off after his doctors recommended the minimally invasive procedure after Money, 70, began to experience shortness of breath. The doctors preferred the surgery be completed the previous week, however Money did not want to cancel his two scheduled Memorial Day weekend shows. The procedure took place while Money had a break in his concert dates.

TMZ’s July 5 report cited Money’s representative who noted that the singer “became ill during recovery.” Money’s first new studio album in 15 years, Brand New Day, was scheduled for a July 19 release. His website shows no dates on his tour page.

Following the heart procedure, Money’s Facebook page offered a brief update on June 6:

The cast of Real Money

“The Money Family appreciates and is very grateful for the thoughts and prayers of Eddie’s friends and fans as he continues to recuperate from his heart valve procedure. He looks forward to getting back on the road very soon, but in the meantime, he hopes that you’ll all join him this Sunday watching one of his personal favorite episodes of Real Money on AXS TV when the Moneys head to Deadwood, South Dakota for some forced family fun!!”

On his social media platforms to share the initial news on May 28, Money wrote to his fans:

“Hey everyone – I will be undergoing a minor, minimally invasive heart valve surgery this week. I appreciate your thoughts and prayers. I look forward to getting back on stage and rockin’ with you all!

Sincerely, the Money Man”

Money made his 28th consecutive Memorial Day Weekend appearance to kick off the DTE Energy Music Theatre’s 2019 summer concert season Saturday, May 25 in Detroit. He also performed at Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino in Arizona, Sunday, May 26, where shortness of breath prevented him from being able to perform an encore at the end of the show.

Born Edward Mahoney in New York, Money dropped out of the New York Police Academy in the ’70s to pursue a career in music. His biggest-ever hit came, a duet with Ronnie Spector of the Ronettes, “Take Me Home Tonight,” which reached #4 in 1986. He’s also well known for such hits as “Baby Hold On,” “Two Tickets to Paradise” and “Walk on Water,” among many others.
