Don Henley Plans Birthday Show, U.S. Datesby Best Classic Bands Staff
Not too long ago all was quiet on the Eagles’ front. Following the death of founding member Glenn Frey early last year, the Eagles announced that they would not continue without him. Last summer and fall, fellow co-founder Don Henley resumed touring as a solo artist, took a break and then toured some more, in the U.S. and Australia/New Zealand.
Now, things are getting even busier. First, we’ve been hearing rumors about a pair of mega-concerts—the Classic East and Classic West Festivals—likely to take place in Los Angeles and New York this summer, co-headlined by Fleetwood Mac and, yes, the Eagles, and also featuring the Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan, Journey and Earth, Wind and Fire. Nothing official has been announced yet, and if it does transpire it’s anyone’s guess what form the Eagles might take in their post-Frey phase.
However that turns out, Henley isn’t sitting still. He’s now added more U.S. tour dates for June (see complete itinerary below) and, to top it all off, a big birthday bash is set for July 22, when he will turn 70. On that date, the Texas-born drummer/singer/songwriter will return to his home state for a celebratory gig at Dallas’ American Airlines Center.

The event will feature songs by Henley spanning his entire career from the Eagles and his solo catalog. Henley will be joined by several to-be-announced special guests throughout the night. Tickets go on sale this Friday, March 24, at 11 a.m. through Ticketmaster. American Express® Card Members can purchase tickets before the general public, beginning today (March 20), through Thursday, March 23 at 10 p.m.
A limited number of special Runaway Tours travel packages are available for fans who want to spend more time with Henley on his birthday weekend, July 22-24, including a ticket to the birthday concert plus an additional evening of storytelling, Q&A, a photo with him and more.
