Eric Clapton has announced a benefit concert to celebrate the musical life of his “dear friend” and former bandmate, Ginger Baker. The charity event, billed as Eric Clapton & Friends: A Tribute to Ginger Baker will be held on February 17, 2020, at the Eventim Apollo Hammersmith in London, U.K. The Nov. 25 announcement promised the artist lineup was forthcoming.

From the announcement: “The setlist for the concert will look to honor Baker’s lifetime in music and will, of course, include Clapton and Baker’s work together in Cream and Blind Faith.”

Tickets for the event will go on sale this Friday, November 29 at 10 a.m. here.

Baker died at 80 on October 6, 2019. Three days later, Clapton chose a simple way to offer his tribute posting an image of his bandmate, with just one word: “Ginger…..” On Oct. 31, Clapton shared a musical tribute. Listen to it here.

Clapton, who turns 75 next March 30, continues to perform but is touring for the first time in years, with 15 European concerts already scheduled. [Tickets are available here.]

It’s hard to imagine the tribute concert being held without Steve Winwood, the other lone surviving member of Blind Faith. The musician mourned “a very sensitive human being with a heart of gold.”

The event will be held in aid of Leonard Cheshire, a charity identified as being close to the Baker family. It’s described as “supporting individuals to live, learn and work as independently as they choose, whatever their ability, at the heart of local life – opening doors to opportunity, choice and support in communities around the globe.”
