In an open letter in Feb. 2016 on his Facebook page, Carlos Santana has spoken out about changes he’d love to see the NFL address with regard to its hugely popular Super Bowl halftime show.

The NFL rotates the “Big Game” among the its broadcast TV partners CBS, NBC and FOX, so CBS won’t have the game again for a few years.

Santana’s letter:

Dear NFL/CBS….I would like to take this opportunity to thank you both for including me as a part of your Super Bowl entertainment. I do feel compelled to point out to you that the Halftime Show should have included some of the local iconic bands that the World would have loved to see perform. Bands like Metallica, Steve Miller, Journey and yours truly. We would have rocked the Half Time Show and done the SF Bay Area proud. This is just an invitation for you to consider iconic bands as part of your Half Time entertainment. Real live music, real live vocals, and give the audience real live chills.

To that, we write: Well done, sir!

Super Bowl 50 HalftimeSantana’s music was played briefly during a highlights clip and CBS showed a picture of the beloved classic rock legend. As you know, Coldplay headlined this year’s halftime extravaganza and were pretty much overshadowed by both Beyonce and Bruno Mars, as well as Lady Gaga’s beautiful rendition of the National Anthem.

2016 will be a huge year for Santana. The band’s early ’70s classic lineup has reunited for Santana IV featuring Gregg Rolie (keyboards, lead vocals), Neal Schon (guitar, vocals), Michael Carabello (percussion) and Michael Shrieve (drums).
