Little Feat in 2024: 1st New Studio Album in 12 Years, Tour
by Best Classic Bands StaffLittle Feat have released Sam’s Place, the band’s first new studio album in 12 years. The recording, which arrived on May 17, 2024, marks the band’s first-ever blues album and the first to feature conga player Sam Clayton on lead vocals on every song. It’s available forin the U.S. here and in the U.K. here. They’re supporting it with the extensive “Can’t Be Satisfied” tour. Tickets are available here.
Days before the album’s release, the band shared a track recorded with Bonnie Raitt, a cover of Muddy Waters’ “Long Distance Call.” The song follows the earlier release of “You’ll Be Mine,” a cover of the Willie Dixon-written chestnut popularized by Howlin’ Wolf, as well as another cover of a Waters tune “Can’t Be Satisfied.” Listen to all three tracks—and more—below. Plus, see the band’s extensive “Can’t Be Satisfied” tour itinerary below.
The members of Little Feat in 2024 are: Bill Payne, keyboards and vocals; Sam Clayton, percussion and vocals; Fred Tackett, guitars and vocals, Kenny Gradney, bass; Scott Sharrard, guitars and vocals; and Tony Leone, drums and vocals. The album was recorded at Sam Phillips Recording in Memphis, Tenn. in August 2023, except for “Got My Mojo Working (Live),” recorded live at the Boulder Theatre in Boulder, Colo., on December 17, 2022.
This is the first Little Feat album recorded with new members Sharrard and Leone.
The band’s longtime friend, Bonnie Raitt, provides vocals on the Muddy Waters number “Long Distance Call,” a duet with Clayton.
The album’s other special guests are Michael “Bull” LoBue on harmonica, Marc Franklin on trumpet and Art Edmaiston on saxophone on select songs.
