Kansas Extends 50th Anniversary Tour With Lots of New Dates

Kansas have added a third (and final) leg to their 50th anniversary tour. The progressive rock group’s tour, which began in June 2023, is dubbed “Another Fork in the Road.” That’s also the title of their recent 3-CD set, Another Fork in the Road – 50 Years Of Kansas via InsideOut Music. The 23 new dates, announced on March 19, 2024, will also feature two hours of memorable hits, fan favorites and deep cuts rarely performed live. A pre-sale begins March 20 at 10 a.m. local time; general on-sale begins March 22 here.

The band’s original drummer Phil Ehart is recovering from a major heart attack. The band shared the news on Feb. 23 on their Facebook page, noting there is no timetable for his return to the road. Kansas resumed their tour on March 1 following a planned break. The post noted that Ehart, born February 4, 1951, will remain in his dual role as the band’s manager, which he has been for 40 years.

Kansas currently includes bassist/vocalist Billy Greer, lead vocalist/keyboardist Ronnie Platt, keyboardist/vocalist Tom Brislin, violinist/guitarist Joe Deninzon, and original guitarist Richard Williams. Eric Holmquist, who had been filling in on drums for the first part of each concert while Ehart was recovering from an arm injury, will now sit behind the kit for the entire show.

“The song ‘Can I Tell You’ may not have been our biggest ‘hit,’ but it is one of the most important songs in the career of the band,” says Williams. “‘Can I Tell You’ was the first song on the demo reel we sent to Don Kirshner. Hearing that demo is what led to Kansas getting a record deal. It felt appropriate, after fifty years, to come full circle and record it with the current lineup.”

Another Fork in the Road includes extensive liner notes by journalist Jeff Wagner, as well as pictures of rarely seen memorabilia and archive material, all overseen by founding member Ehart. It’s available in the U.S. here and in the U.K. here.
