Mick Jagger Moves Like Jagger Following 2019 Heart Procedure

As Mick Jagger continued to recuperate from a heart valve procedure in May 2019, he released a video of himself moving like, well, Jagger. The clip, released that May 15, followed the Rolling Stones’ post on their social platforms a few days’ earlier that they would be announcing plans for the re-scheduling of their 2019 tour. That edition of their “No Filter” tour was temporarily shelved when Jagger’s condition became known during a pre-tour physical. (On May 16, the Stones revealed the rescheduled dates.)
The New York Post‘s Page Six reported that Mick Jagger made his first post-surgery public appearance on April 18 when he attended his girlfriend Melanie Hamrick’s ballet. The event, at New York’s Lincoln Center, was the world premiere of a piece titled “Porte Rouge” that was choreographed by Hamrick. It was set to Rolling Stones music and orchestrated by Jagger.
The sold-out fundraising event, at David H. Koch Theater, was billed as “Stars of Today Meet the Stars of Tomorrow.” (See the Page Six item below.)

On April 11, Jagger posted a photo of himself on his social media accounts with the caption “A walk in the park!” The picture, presumably taken that day in New York City, showed the performer coatless. The weather in NYC was chilly but pleasant and it’s likely that Jagger was out to get some fresh air (in Central Park?) following the previous week’s heart valve procedure.

He was lucky to be alive, said Chris Jagger, his younger brother. In an article published April 6 by The Mirror in the U.K., the 71-year-old Chris, himself a performer, said that Mick’s recent heart valve issue was discovered during a routine checkup. Mick, 75, underwent emergency surgery the previous week in New York City to have the valve replaced and was said to be doing well in recovery.
Chris Jagger told the newspaper that Mick’s heart problem “just showed up on a scan so it could happen to anybody.” He added that the condition is of the same type that killed The Clash’s Joe Strummer at age 50. “He came back from walking the dogs and his wife found him collapsed on the sofa. He had this valve problem. His father died from it. It was hereditary. With Mick it came on a check-up,” Chris Jagger said.
“That is why when you get to a certain age they want to check for this, check for that. You get to 70, you got to be careful,” he said, adding that he’s undergone some health issues himself, without offering specifics.

Mick’s surgery caused the Rolling Stones to postpone all dates on their “No Filter” tour, including a headlining gig at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival that May. The 2019 run, originally scheduled to begin on April 20, ultimately began on June 21. The news of Jagger’s health issue was broken on April 1. Following the surgery, a report noted that “doctors were able to access Jagger’s heart valve through his femoral artery” via a catheter.
Mick tweeted, “Thank you everyone for all your messages of support, I’m feeling much better now and on the mend–and also a huge thank you to all the hospital staff for doing a superb job.”

Chris Jagger added, in the Mirror article, “Maybe he will slow down. Touring is a pressure.”
