Jeff Lynne’s ELO announced on Oct. 6 a live CD/DVD of their June 24, 2017, concert at London’s Wembley Stadium. Wembley or Bust is being released on 2-CDs, 2-CDs/1-DVD, 2-CDs/1-Blu-ray and 3-LPs on Nov. 17 on Columbia Records.
The concert film was directed by Paul Dugdale, who directed a pair of 2016 Rolling Stones concert films. And from the clips that have been released so far, Electric Light Orchestra are in for a treat. (Watch below.)
From the announcement: “Jeff and his remarkable musical ensemble fill Wembley Stadium with one of the greatest rock & roll spectacles of all time, complete with bells, whistles and spaceships in front of a 60,000 capacity crowd.”
Says Lynne: “It’s the best time I ever had in music… It is beyond anything I could have imagined.”

The film also includes performances of early ELO songs like “10538 Overture” and “Can’t Get it Out of My Head,” to classic rock staples “Mr. Blue Sky,” “Livin’ Thing” and “Evil Woman” to “Do Ya” from his days with the Move, and “Handle With Care,” which he recorded with the Traveling Wilburys.
“As the time went by,” says Lynne, “I never lost touch with those songs. They always feel part of me.”
On Oct. 26, Lynne also released a teaser video of “Xanadu,” which was the title track from the 1980 film. ELO and the film’s star, Olivia Newton-John, had a #1 hit with it in the U.K. (#8 in the U.S.).

After years of being overlooked by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Electric Light Orchestra was inducted last April in the Class of 2017. Many acts use that platform to announce a significant tour, yet Jeff Lynne’s ELO only performed a handful of dates in his native U.K., all of which had been previously announced. U.S. audiences have been clamoring for a concert tour. Recently, though, Jeff Lynne’s ELO has only done shows in New York and Los Angeles.
Those took place in the fall of 2015 when Lynne released a new album, Alone in the Universe, as Jeff Lynne’s ELO, and then again in September 2016, when they performed two concerts at New York’s Radio City Music Hall and three at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
