Shortly after reports that the British producer Chris Tsangarides had died from pneumonia and heart failure on Jan. 6, many of the musicians he worked with went to social media to mourn his loss. Tsangarides, just 61 years old, was known for his work with classic rock stars Judas Priest, Thin Lizzy, Gary Moore (solo), Anvil and Black Sabbath, as well as dozens of others across a broad cross-section of genres, including Tom Jones, Joan Armatrading, the Tragically Hip and Concrete Blonde.

Along with the bands, Tsangarides produced Thin Lizzy’s final studio album, 1983’s Thunder and Lightning, and Judas Priest’s 1990 album, Painkiller.

Tsangarides, who grew up in North London, studied trumpet at the Royal Academy of Music and then economics in college. He began his professional career as an engineer.

Black Sabbath’s Geezer Butler called him a “thoroughly lovely bloke” in a tweet…

Sabbath bandmate Tony Iommi echoed the sentiment…

A post on Thin Lizzy’s Facebook page read: “It is with great sadness that we hear of the passing of Producer Chris Tsangarides who worked with the band on Renegade and Thunder and Lightning.

“Our thoughts go out to Chris’s wife Jane and family at this time.”
