Adam Ant has announced a North American tour where he’ll be performing his 1982 solo album, Friend or Foe, for the first time in its entirety. The album yielded a #12 pop hit, “Goody Two Shoes.”
Following a world tour of the U.K., Canada, Australia and New Zealand, Ant has scheduled a 17-date U.S. tour (plus one date in Toronto) beginning September 4.
Tickets are available here.
When Adam and the Ants were first presented to U.S. Top 40 in 1980, station program directors weren’t quite sure what to make of the group and its pirate-costumed frontman. Rock and alternative stations, however, played several tracks from 1980’s Kings of the Wild Frontier, including the catchy “Antmusic.”
The release’s original press materials touted “an exciting new step forward in rock and pop music. Drawing on the rousing chants and heroic legends of American Indians, pirates and adventurers, Adam writes and sings very earthy, stirring anthems for today’s world.”
By 1982, the band had run its course and Adam Ant began a solo career with Friend or Foe. Thanks to the success of “Goody Two Shoes,” the album reached #16 in the U.S. and was certified Gold.
“Don’t drink, don’t smoke, what do you do?”

The tour will also feature various singles and personal favorites.
From the March 18 tour announcement: “From his early punk days in London to his explosion on the world stage that would lead to him becoming an icon, Adam Ant’s musical career spans the course of nine albums and 22 chart-topping singles worldwide. At one point, Adam had eight singles in the UK Top 40 in one week.
“Adam and the Ants’ 1979 debut album, Dirk Wears White Sox, was the first #1 album in the U.K. Independent Albums Chart.
“The follow-up, Kings of the Wild Frontier, featured Ant’s trademark burundi beat style of African drumming and spent 12 weeks at #1 in the U.K. and was the best-selling album of 1981. It produced three U.K. hits, ‘Dog Eat Dog’ (#4), ‘Antmusic’ ( #2) and ‘Kings of the Wild Frontier’ (#2) and won Adam a Brit Award for Best New Artist.
“On its day of release in 1981, ‘Stand and Deliver’ went straight to #1, and remained at the top spot in the U.K. singles chart for five weeks, earning Adam Ant two prestigious Ivor Novello Awards for Best Songwriter of the Year and Best British Record.
