Singer + Jazz Band Swings ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’

Screen Shot 2016-05-14 at 2.50.00 PMWe’ve always said that one sure mark of a great song is that no matter the style it’s done in, it always works. In fact sometimes you find you love it even more than how it was originally performed.

Such is the case with the tune is this video: “Livin’ on a Prayer.” It’s beloved by millions as a 1986 #1 hit that is Bon Jovi’s signature song. It’s an American working class anthem. It was voted #1 on VH1’s list The 100 Greatest Songs of the ’80s. You know it already. More than three million folks own it. Oddly enough, its singer and co-writer, Jon Bon Jovi (who composed the song with Richie Sambora and Desmond Child) didn’t like his band’s original recording of it.

If he’s heard this take, he’s gotta dig it. Singer Miche Braden sings the hell outta it. Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox swings it like nobody’s business. Sometimes – more often than you might expect – classic rock tunes are simply stone cold classics, period. Our Classic Video…
